Celebrated World Animal Day 2024: A Compassionate Future for All

On October 4, over 600 bright, eager students joined the Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society (LAWCS) and commemorated World Animal Day–a day that not only brought joy and excitement but also inspired a deeper connection to the world we share with animals. This year’s theme, the world is their home too,`` resonated with everyone present, reminding us of all of the vital role animals play in our lives and the environment.

The atmosphere was electric with curiosity and compassion as students learned about the five Basic Freedoms of Animals–freedoms that every animal deserves, such as freedom from hunger, discomfort, pain and fear. Each child pledged to become a protector of these freedoms, vowing to stand up for animal rights and to become a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. These pledges are not just promises for today but commitments to building a future where compassion extends to all living beings.

Beyond the education, the students were given delicious plant-based meals, a beautiful reminder of the connection between what we eat and the health of our planet. As they enjoyed these nourishing meals, they were inspired by the idea that by making small, thoughtful choices, we can all contribute to a healthier and sustainable world.

World Animal Day 2024 was not just a celebration–it was a powerful movement toward a future where kindness and respect for animals are the norm, not the exception. The event left everyone, young and old, with a profound sense of purpose. Every small act of kindness, every effort to protect animals, is a step toward a world where they are cherished as fellow inhabitants of our shared planet.

Together, with the next generation leading the way, we are creating a more compassionate future. The celebration proved that our actions today would ripple through time, nurturing a world where animals are seen, heard and valued–not as resources, but as living beings who share our home.

Let’s keep this momentum alive. Let's stand together, continue to advocate for animal welfare and with every act of compassion, remind ourselves that the world is truly their home too.
